Headquartered in Dubai, Emirates Airlines is the largest carrier in the Middle East. Emirates also makes hundreds of flights to and from the EU each week, flying to both primary and secondary airports in 20 member states. Worldwide, Emirates flies more than 58.6 million passengers a year.
Nearly 85 percent of Emirates flights arrive on time, which is a relatively high number. But because so many passengers fly, there are still a few who can still experience delayed flights from the Emirates and canceled flights. If you are flying Emirates, it is important to be prepared for any situation that may arise. ARE YOU ELIGIBLE FOR EMIRATES ‘FLIGHT COMPENSATION?
Whether you’ve been on a delayed Emirates flight or your trip has been canceled altogether, there are essential criteria you must meet to be eligible for compensation. Make sure you can check all these boxes:
The airline has given less than 14 days notice for your delay or cancellation.
Your flight took place 6 years ago or less.
You have a valid booking confirmation and boarding pass.
You checked in for your flight on time.
Your flight will land in the EU, leave the EU, or both.
The reason for the cancellation or delay is in the control of the airline.
This last criterion is one of the most important. The airline should only compensate under EU 261 if the reason for the delayed flight by your Emirates or a canceled flight was under its control. This includes reasons such as mechanical and maintenance issues, lack of passengers, lack of staff or unfit pilotage. These are not considered “extraordinary circumstances.”
Extraordinary circumstances are beyond the airline’s control, including weather, airport closures, airspace restrictions, employee strikes, political instability, and flying birds in the engine. If the reason falls into one of these categories, you may not be able to claim compensation for Emirates flight delays.
How to Cancel the Singapore Airline Tickets

Keep in mind that whether your flight meets the criteria of being delayed 3 hours or more is measured by the time of its arrival. That is, your flight must arrive at its destination more than 3 hours after its initial scheduled arrival. If your flight leaves its point of origin more than 3 hours late, but still arrives less than 3 hours after its scheduled time, you may not be able to claim delayed compensation for the Emirates flight.
However, the exact time of arrival can be discussed. The courts ruled that an airplane “arrived” when it opened at least one of its doors. Make sure you keep an eye on your watch when those doors open. If your flight is interrupted near the 3 hour mark, you may have a case.
COMPENSATION FOR CANCELLATION OF EMIRATES FLIGHT
Canceled flights are also subject to the criteria of extraordinary circumstances. If your flight has been canceled for any reason at the airline control, you are eligible. The Emirates flight compensation you owe then depends on the length of your flight.
Emirates Airlines refunds
Refunds related to tickets are issued in accordance with the fare conditions mentioned in the tickets.
